Remember …
Anyone who wants to venture high into the mountains must be well prepared.
We explain here what you need to pay attention to and the absolute essentials for your backpack. It’s better to leave unnecessary things at home so that you do not have to carry too much weight.
One of the most important things for all mountaineers is the weather report. The weather high in the mountains can change very rapidly. Stable weather conditions are therefore essential. If it is not consistently good or if we are unsure whether it will change, it is better to turn back and try another time – you are sure to have better luck next time!
Sulden is not known as the Siberia of Tyrol for nothing. They say we have 9 months of winter and 3 months of cold. That's not without reason: sometimes it even snows near the refuge in the height of summer. Once, in August, the snow reached all the way down to the valley! When we were kids, we always found that very exciting as we could sled down the steep slopes next to the hostel.
If you are in distress, call this number. But you should only call it if you are in a hopeless situation. If you call it when you do not really need it, you will have to cover the costs of the helicopter yourself …
To ensure unalloyed enjoyment of the mountains, we recommend packing the following things in your backpack. Things are a bit different at a mountain refuge compared to down in the valley. If you are spending the night here, certain things are essential. Bring cash with you because there is NO way to pay with credit or debit cards. Additionally, a sleeping bag is mandatory. Also, make sure you can fasten your backpack at the waist and chest. It will save your back!
Water bottle with plenty of water
Power snacks such as dried fruit, bananas, and energy bars
