The jewel at the foot of the Ortler
Experience bliss at 2,661 m in the Ortler Alps in South Tyrol
For 100 years, the hintergrathütte has stood bravely and steadfastly in the high winds and shone in the mountain sun – a mountain crystal made of walls and windows. And for 40 years, it has been our home in the summer. If you have never been here before, then you should really come and see for yourself. If it's calm and sunny, then you can take a seat on our terrace. Or simply wrap up warm. If you already know us, we probably don't need to say anything more... except maybe: We are open from early June to early October – depending on when it starts snowing in autumn. In winter or if our phone doesn't work, it's best to call us on +393487333807!

We have something extremely special – our “Schmarrn” is not your typical Kaiserschmarrn pancake. It may have been once, but over the years it has become a highlight. How it happened is a story in itself:
In the first year that our grandfather "Neina Fritz" ran the lodge, he was alone up here on the mountain, except for a couple of young lads. This meant that he was also responsible for cooking. One day, he was supposed to make Kaiserschmarrn. However, as was often the case with men, he didn't exactly know how to go about it. His mother hadn't taught him when he was a boy. And at that time, there was no telephone. But he did have a radio connection! So he contacted his wife in the valley by radio, and she gave him the recipe. Unfortunately, he misunderstood and put too much oil in the pan. And that's how the "slightly different” Kaiserschmarrn came about. However, to this day, the “Hütten Schmarrn” is still made this way and has gained true cult status. Our regular guests never want to miss it when they visit us – after all it tastes really delicious and gives the muscles a bit of extra something! PS: Aside from the misunderstanding with the oil, Fritz and his wife always had a good connection!
